I’ve been there! I’m among the fireworks loving people who made their way to watch the Day 1 of the 2008 World Pyro Olympics at the SM Mall of Asia last Saturday May 3. Like last year, the restaurants and cafes facing the esplanade were all strict in accepting customers for the event. You need to make reservations and avail their event offer. Jon and I grabbed the offer of La Mesa Grill which offered P250 per head but its consumable. We had a good spot though the little palm trees are really blocking some of the view. The food was fine - we had the mixed meat and seafood set and fresh buko juice and leche flan. Our total bill was only Php570 and it was fair enough. We only added 70 since we paid 500 already as a downpayment for the reservation.

The event had China and Germany to do the fireworks display. China started around 8pm already and Germany at around 9pm. Both were beautiful but Germany was better. You could base that on audience impact where China only get an applause after their presentation while Germany had 4 applauses in total during their presentation til it ended. Personally, i like Germany’s presentation since they had a lot of variations and special effects plus you could really see a large part of the sky so bright with the fireworks and i love their finale!

I’ve got videos of the two countries’ presentation. Too bad the palm tree is blocking some of the view but anyway its still nice to have a copy. I’m not gonna be there to watch the 2nd and 3rd day but i’m sure to be there on May 24 for the final day of the Pyro Olympics for its gonna be the best day of the event and i don’t wanna miss it
