Five lessons to make you think about the way we treat people.

1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady.

During my second month of college, our professor gave us a pop quiz.
I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions until I
read the last one:
“What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?”
Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman
several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I
know her name?
I handed in my paper, leavingthe last question blank. Just before
class ended, one student asked ifthe last question would count toward our
quiz grade.
“Absolutely,” said the professor.
“In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant.
Theydeserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say
“hello.”
I’ve never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was
Dorothy.

Why we should go home on time

Here’s another one worth sharing.. something i’ve been doing for months now every time i could and it does help….

WHY WE SHOULD GO HOME ON TIME…

Mr. Narayana Murthy is undoubtedly one of the most famous persons from Karnataka. He is known not just for building the biggest IT empire in India but also for his simplicity. Almost every important dignitary visits Infosys campus. He delivered an interesting speech during an employee session with another IT company in India. He is incidentally, one of the top 50 Influential people of Asia according to an Asiaweek publication and also the new IT Advisor to the Thailand Prime Minister.

Extract of Mr. Narayana Murthy’s Speech during Mentor Session:

I know people who work 12 hours a day, six days a week, or more. Some people do so because of a work emergency where the long hours are only temporary. Other people I know have put in these hours for years. I don’t know if they are working all these hours, but I do know they are in the office this long. Others put in long office hours because they are addicted to the workplace.

The Lord’s Prayer

While browsing through my forwarded emails folder, i came across this one which happen to be one of my favorites. Its really nice and inspiring. So i’m sharing it here for anyone to read :)

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father Who Art In Heaven.
Yes?
Don’t interrupt me. I’m praying.
But — you called ME!
Called you?
No, I didn’t call you.
I’m praying.
Our Father who art in Heaven.
There — you did it again!
Did what?
Called ME.
You said,
“Our Father who art in Heaven”
Well, here I am.
What’s on your mind?

Management Lessons and a Career Advice

Here’s two forwarded email i got from an officemate. Fun to read yet it really does make sense :)

CAREER ADVICE

AN OPEN ADVICE ABOUT CAREER DECISIONS:

Several of my staff has approached me lately about their career
decisions. I really appreciate my staff opening up to me. It is quite
reassuring to know that they’re still having second thoughts about
leaving.

Here is part of the email I sent to a “confused” staff:

I have worked for more than 5 companies already so I guess you might be
correct in saying I have had considerable experience about leaving and
moving on. I will not stop you nor tell you to leave, though of course
it will be better if you stay. In any career decision, leaving or
staying I believe, based from my personal experiences, should only be
done for the right reasons.

Lunch at La Maison’s Greenbelt 5

We had our team lunch today at La Maison’s in Greenbelt 5. Hmm its my first time in Greenbelt 5 and well its nice indeed. And the resto, hmmm the food tastes good, just that we had a bad experience with the service. First comment would be the place. It was hot, really. I’m not sure if Greenbelt’s air-condition system is poor or the place just heats up due to the number of people or the heat from the kitchen that they needed to put up an industrial fan on the dining area. Another would having smoke all over the place. I mean, they grill the steaks but hey, do they really have to let the smoke out on the dining area? It made our eyes teary and the smell did stick to our clothes. Second comment would be the very slow service - seriously. It my first time and most of us too to be able to wait more than an hour just to get your main course served. My manager got mad and complained for the poor service they showed us that the crew was guilty about. They kept on saying sorry for the delay explaining that there has been so many customers and the orders were all lined up and stuffs and the steaks need to be grilled for some exact number of minutes, etc. We understood that about the steak but about the other food we ordered like the soup which took a long time to be served too which is not even hot anymore? and giving the wrong orders? oh well, they admitted their mistake and so each of us got a free complimentary slice of this certain chocolate cake with cherry on top(i forgot what its called). Tastes good anyway. Thanks for the free yummy dessert…. hehe ;)

The Gucci Gang Controversy

Its my first time to post about a celebrity issue or controversy if its what it is called. I guess i just happen to be interested in this one after this has been one of the topics we had during lunch today. Everyone in our part of the table was surprised to hear about this news. Its been on the hot spot for a month now i think but guess we aren’t that aware or interested much in celebrity gossips and stuffs. I’m not familiar with the people involved in this issue except from the fact that i’ve been hearing DJ Montano’s name but never knew who he is nor how he looks like. Its only Tim Yap whom i’m a bit familiar adding the info that i learned today that he’s actually one my friend’s second degree cousin and one of my friend’s relative thru marriage. Truth to the news? sorry, i’m not a gossip girl.

A brief summary would be about the so-called relationship of DJ Montano and Brian Gorrell which turned out to be a he-dumped-me-after-he-got-my-money-now-i’m-getting-my-revenge-to-have-it-back scenario. According to Brian, their relationship ended after DJ used him and had his savings for a supposed-to-be investment for a  resto. Then all that Brian wanted is to get his money back but since DJ is not returning it, Brian is now on his sweet revenge of revealing the dark secrets and lifestyle of the so-called socialites DJ Montano and his friends Celine Lopez, Tim Yap, etc. and tagging them as the Gucci Gang.

If you’re interested to find out about this and the people involved, just google the word “Gucci Gang” or “Gucci Gang controversy” and it will lead you to a lot of related links. But anyway, here’s two of the most important links…

heroes season 2

yey! finally i was able to watch the second volume of Heroes. it was really a great series and i just love it. Guess i’m really hooked on the supernatural thingy. The whole of season was a bit short compared to the first one but this one is full of excitement and action. i finished the whole thing in two sittings coz i was so full of question the moment i started watching the 1st episode i couldn’t wait for the ending to find our who’s who and why and what… haha. if not for my stupid headache i could have watched it all in one sitting.

Hmm.. i still think Peter is the cutest and hottest guy there. I wonder if Nikki died in the explosion…. i hate Angela Petrelli - crazy worthless mother! still i wonder why she let Nathan die.. or will he really die? And Sylar…yeah he’s back and damn… he’s probably gonna be the highlight villain next season. and that Caitlin girl…will Peter ever get her back from the future? and will Claire bear and West get togeher? hmmm…. and more more questions in my head…hehe

anyway, its been fun watching it and i couldn’t wait for volume three. hope it will out soon and be much longer.. as in bitin talaga ako! hahaha
