Microsoft has now publicly released the MSE or Microsoft Security Essentials, a very big leap from the old Windows Live One Care. It is available for free from the Microsoft website and can be installed on any “genuine” Windows system.

Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a free* download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and always kept up to date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology. It’s easy to tell if your PC is secure — when you’re green, you’re good. It’s that simple.

Microsoft Security Essentials runs quietly and efficiently in the background so that you are free to use your Windows-based PC the way you want—without interruptions or long computer wait times.

I’ve downloaded it and installed it on my Windows 7 64-bit system and it works really well with no problems so far. Its quick and easy to install, update and scan! Good job Microsoft! (i’ll just be waiting and see how good it works as an antivirus :) )

Yey! We’ve been chosen as one of the finalist to host the Windows 7 Launch Party! Good thing i was checking my email at the time the finalist email arrived on my inbox and was able to respond to it on time to be confirmed as a host and we’re now officially hosting a launch party! woohoo! time to plan it out now!

Congrats to all confirmed party hosts! Can’t wait to get the party package and have our own launch party soon!

Details of the party by Emil Protalinski of Ars Technica:

We learned that the world’s largest software maker had partnered with House Party, apparently the world’s leading party organizer, to encourage technology enthusiasts to throw Windows 7 launch parties in their communities between October 22 and October 29. Those interested had to go through an application process, not to mention they had to be residents of one of 12 countries: Australia, Italy, Canada, Japan, Mexico, France, Spain, Germany, the US, Hong Kong, the UK, and India. Microsoft did not reveal how many hosts it planned to pick, and even now it still hasn’t said how many it has picked.

Hosts will receive a special Signature Edition of Windows 7 Ultimate for their efforts. They will also get a Windows 7 Party Pack to share with their guests, based on one out of four themes: PhotoPalooza, Media Mania, Setting up with Ease, or Family Friendly Fun. Party packs will be delivered by October 10, 2009, and include the following items.

  • All hosts will receive:
    • One limited Signature Edition Windows 7 Ultimate
    • One Deck of Playing Cards with Windows 7 Desktop Design
    • One Puzzle with Windows 7 Desktop Design
    • One Poster with Windows 7 Desktop Design
    • Ten Tote Bags with Windows 7 Desktop Design for hosts and guests
  • Also included in USA party packs:
    • One package of streamers for decoration
    • One package of balloons for decoration
    • One table top centerpiece for decoration
    • One package of Windows 7 napkins

US residents will also be entered for a chance to win a $750 mini-notebook computer. A total of 64 winners will be notified once all the parties are over (after October 30, 2009).

I’m a PC – Microsoft’s ad campaign saying a PC is not a stereotype and so are we. View thousands of videos made by people who declares “I’m a PC” and you can add your own too :)

They say, Its Microsoft’s ad againsts the Mac ad. Honestly, I prefer PCs or lets say Windows than Macs. I guess i grew up with it and i’ve got used to it already. But i’ve seen and tried Macs and i think they’re cute but i guess they’re just not for me. lol. So, with that, i’m proud to say, I’m a PC :)

I recently got a ASUS X80NE Notebook from a fellow TPC member. I’m not sure if the price is right but compared to others i’ve searched for i think its okay and cheaper. I got it for around 26.5k and it comes with a free laptop bag and optical mouse. Good enough for a simple laptop. Anyway, after i picked it up from their shop in Makati, it was pre-installed with XP already and a few drivers. I was given a copy of the other drivers needed but when i found out the the audio is not working and there are still yellow items in the Device Manager, i decided to browse around and download updated drivers from the ASUS website.  I got most from the X80N folder and some like the UAA and PCMCIA from A8N (which is almost the same model as the X80N). After installing the drivers and some softwares, i finally have it working fine :)

This is the order in which you should install drivers for ASUS notebooks:
1. Chipset driver
2. ATKACPI driver (you may install all 5 atk drivers in the atk folder)
3. VGA driver
4. UAA driver (under the a8n audio driver folder)
5. Audio driver
6. Modem driver
7. LAN driver
8. Card Reader driver (under pcmcia folder)
9. Wireless Console utility (in Utilities folder)
10. Bluetooth driver (optional – if you don’t have BT just skip it)
11. Wireless driver (if you dont want to use the windows wireless connection manager)
12. Other drivers (kb_filter, touchpad drivers, tpm drivers if you need them)
13. Utilities (optional, if you don’t like Asus apps just skip it)

Suggested asus utilities you might want to install:
- splendid (for the splendid utility to work)
- instant fun
- lifeframe
- power 4 gear (for the power4 gear to work)
- asus dsm (a software that cna encrypt/hide files and folder)

Download drivers here. Just type the laptop model on the upper right corner search field and hit “search info” then choose the os model you need on the pop-up menu.

My comment after a few weeks of using it:

- laptop speaker is okay, initially sound is not that good but after playing around with the equalizer it sounded better already when playing music.
- display is beautiful and graphics look nice. the splendid technology software that comes with it added to its beauty.
- the builtin webcam is good enough even if its just a vga camera.
- like most notebooks, it easily gets hot so its better to get a laptop cooler
- weight is tolerable at around 2kg+ with the battery
- its very fast and easy to use. i feel like im still working on my desktop pc except that it got smaller.
- got no problems so far…

Upon checking my MSN mail, i saw an ad of the Windows Live SkyDrive on the banner on top of the page. I got a bit interested so i clicked on and was redirected to the Windows Live SkyDrive page where i learned more about it. So its one of the new services offered by Windows Live which gives you free 5 GB of password-protected online file storage. You can use it to store and access your files anywhere privately or allows you to share files with others too. It is accessible anytime you login using Windows Live ID. With all the free online file storage out there, i think i could use this one when needed. I kinda trust Microsoft more than any other websites offering the same service.

Heard of the Google browser before? It was previously heard from an April Fool’s from Google. But now, guess what? It’s a reality. There is really a Google browser! It’s called Google Chrome and is currently on its beta stage. It’s pretty cool and looks simple but elegant. Well, we know Google’s been trying to provide lotsa products and services with great features for the past years. I’ve just downloaded mine today :)
